Caiti Flannery, a Mankato West sophomore, won a silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway as a member of Team USA’s mixed curling team. Team USA qualified for the playoff round by finishing with a record of 8-1 in round robin play. After defeating Norway in the first round of the playoffs in an extra end, Team USA advanced to face Russia in the semifinal round. The US team earned a trip to the gold medal game by defeating Russia 8-6 in the semifinal. The gold medal game was a match up between both pool winners, the US and Canada. Canada scored a big end early in the match and the US was never able to recover securing the silver medal in a 10-3 defeat. Team USA finished play with an overall record of 10 -2. The silver medal is the highest medal won by any Team USA at the Olympic curling level.
